REPEATEDLY. Gosh, I hope Hookey ends up being a community of cutting edge thinkers and fiber artists who have NEW and innovative ideas, rather than be a place where worn out, redundant topics are hashed and rehashed.
But elsewhere... and this is where my rant kicks in...
Topics I could do without reading anymore, ever ever again: acrylic is for crocheters, crocheters don't spend $$$ on "good yarn," and how knitting is so much better or nicer looking than crochet. It's the 21st effing century, isn't it time to quit it with the late 19th century textile arts biases and elitism? The more threads I read, the more pissed I am that I didn't spend that time yanno... actually CROCHETING AND BEING HAPPY.
I think we can police it so those very very tired discussions don't happen here. Those very discussions and topics are why I started Hookey. I got so frustrated with the same ol' same ol' rehash and broken record. None of those discussions take us forward, they keep us stuck. Here is a place for us to PLAY!

See....and this is why you rarely see me anywhere else online.....hahahaha. I've been operating in my own little yarniverse for years and avoiding most yarnwhores :D

Thanks for reading and commenting. I really want to be someplace that stimulates inspiration and creativity.

Vivat! Agreed on all points!

It's interesting how it's so divisive yet we all deal with the same medium. Different tools yield different results. Duchamp and Banksy are doing the same thing differently. Just like Crocheters and Knitters do.

It was interesting to be at Stitches West this weekend and see this very thing. No one was rude or anything, but it was rather hard to find people who were excited about crocheters. Kind of a bummer. I really love fancy high end yarn!

I think that the crochet celebration at Stitches West this weekend was much better than in past years. Myra Woods made a point of including some crochet in her presentation on template knitting/crochet, and I was able to take a very fun all-crochet class with Kristin Omdahl (Kristen's class was sold out!) I also noticed that the folks at the Big Yarns booth (the one with the HUGE hooks & needles) were demo-ing crochet about half the time I walked by.
Benjamin Levisay is taking crochet to heart and has really made an effort to swing crochet into the Stitches Events. We are over coming a HUGE industry wide bias, so we need to support the efforts and offer even cooler ideas and suggestions to get us up to parr in the market place. You can't argue with 17,4 Million Households, 3rd most popular craft in the US, and 1.064 BILLION USD in sales. It's all in the marketing, and Benjamin has that figured out, sadly many others haven't but we'll support those who do.

This was my first year attending, so I really don't have anything to balance against past years. I did see giant crochet hooks and one very cool t-shirt. And again, no one was mean or rude when I said I was a crocheter. The atmosphere was very friendly, people were very happy to making out with so much yarn!
