I love looking at what people are doing in the art world with crochet - taking the craft to its edges by combining it with other mediums, hitting the streets with it, etc. Thought I'd share five of my favorite cutting-edge crochet artists:
Casey places crochet fabric and wire beneath glass and within paper to alter the way the crochet looks. She is inspired by science.
2. NeSpoon
This street artist puts doilies in public urban spaces add a neat soft touch to hard environments.
3. Ivano Vitali
This guy makes his own humongous hooks and needles to crochet and knit newspaper into wearable works of art.
I love the way that Kershaw takes old VHS tape and recycles it into crochet jewelry and sculptures.
This fiber artist has been working for more than thirty years creating cool playground installations - crochet that kids can crawl on!
I profile a different crochet artist each week on Mondays over at Crochet Concupiscence so visit if this is an aspect of crochet that interests you.

Wow! These crochet artists opened my eyes to crocheting more than the patterns I find on the Internet. I might not be able to take on any of these HUGE projects, but seeing what these artists have done encourages me to think outside the box and attempt something unique! When I do, I'll have to post it on Hookey! Thanks for bringing these crochet artists to my attention!

Thanks for the comment Jo! I really love what crocheters are doing in the art world and also think it's great inspiration for smaller creative projects.

Awesome!!! This is great....I am looking for artists who take crochet in different directions. Thanks for posting this!!
