Alternative Materials Crochet

Every so often I am inspired by alternative materials for my crochet, it might be the texture or the colour that sets my imagination off, I have often used polythene because of the sound it makes when handled. You might find it odd to be inspired by sound but my husband is a musician so sound is part of my daily equation.

Recently I went to a builders suppliers where I came across a spool of Manila Twine - I adore the scent of Manila…

The Yarn Yogi - More Bracelet Inspiration!

Last week, I took my 13-year old son to our local Tilly's to get his monthly pair of skateboarding shoes because last month's pair left pieces of its sole all over our neighborhood street. As I was paying at the register I saw these:…

Shrug FAQ's

Here's my newest post http://theyarnyogi.com/2012/07/02/shrug-faqs/:

The number one question I get about my shrugs is, “How do you put it on?” I remember my first shrug. It was a free vintage pattern for a bedjacket shrug from the ’50′s or ’40;s. I followed the pattern, completed it and said, “Whaaaat?” It was just a folded rectangle of crochet! How can this be worn? This is the reply I have been sending to my buyers who have…

And Now Audio Tape Crochet (recycle )

I had previously posted about crocheting with video tape and made a blingy little evening bag. Today my post is about audio tape. I have not been able to figure out how to upload photos to HOOKEY just yet, so you will still have to go to my blog, Boocoos Blogthingy, at boocoos.blogspot.com.

This is an excellent way to recycle and repurpose, so please give both posts a look.

Also, don't forget about my big free yarn giveaway. Deadline in only 7 days!

Maybe I can't upload photos… Continue

How I became a Crocheter

How I Became a Crocheter, by Erica Jane Smith, Aged 37¾

I come from a family of knitters. Oh sure, they can crochet, and sew, and there's the occasional bit of cross stitch and tapestry, but if I had to place them into any particular box, it would be the knitting one. I, on the other hand, am categorically NOT a knitter. I -can- knit, I just don't enjoy it. I find it a struggle, counter-intuitive, and incredibly heavy going. If there's more than 30 stitches cast on, and the…

This is shaping up and I get to be me...

Wow! I'm actually super glad that the social side of CLF 3.0 didn't work on our website! I love this platform, I don't have to code anything, I can just be a crocheter here!

I am so blessed that the CLF 3.0 experience is shaping up as I envisioned and dreamed. I guess I'll always be Fearless Leader over on the Crochet Liberation Front website, it's a moniker that works for me there. But, here on this site, I want to be me, Laurie A. Wheeler.

Who is this Laurie A.…
