Purple Haze Capalette 1

65" around at base, 9-1/2" high, made with mercerized cotton crochet thread and buttons from a grab-bag from a fantastic shop in San Francisco (this is a crummy cell phone pic until I can take a real one!)

Love this-the edging is lovely. Please post more pics when you get them! Is this your own design?

Thank you so much! The edging is called a Double Bullion Stitch, I found it, along with the pattern for the whole piece, in Crochet! magazine, the Autumn 2012 issue; they called it the Purple Haze Shoulder Scarf. It was designed for a heavier yarn and I altered it just enough to use crochet thread #3 instead and changed the way it buttoned (all minor changes). Here's a bit about the stitch by the woman who designed the pattern: http://www.textilefusion.com/bookblog/?tag=double-bullion

That's really interesting Madelyn-I read that issue-I even have a couple of my own designs in there! But I didn't notice the capelet-possibly because the contrast in the photo didn't show it off as well as the color you used. I like the #3 thread much better because it really has good stitch definition.

Just a note here-Crochet! is always looking for unique jewelry designs-you might consider sending them some of yours. If you're interested and have questions about how to do it-I'd be glad to help you (if you haven't done this before). From one self-taught crocheter to another!

Barbara!  One of yours was the other design I was sighing over!  The Ruffle Redux Shawl, it's so dramatic and lovely.  Your cuff bracelet is cute, too, and looks pretty complex.  I'm sorry, I didn't put it together when I saw your response here.  You're so kind to offer to help me figure out the submission process, but I don't feel I'm quite ready for that yet.  I don't think the pieces I've designed are innovative enough.  Maybe after I get another year under my belt?

Diane, thank you so much.  My brain goes right to alternate ways of doing things, which also means that the mistakes I make are spectacular, indeed!
